A Camera Systems engineer will work together with hardware and software engineers to define baseline camera requirements for our hardware performance in order to improve overall self-driving performance. Such studies will inform crucial decisions in our camera system performance for current and future Motional vehicle platforms, and will clearly lay out the rationale behind those decisions.

What You'll Do

  • Have a deep understanding of Motional’s current and planned future camera systems specifications and technical details.

  • Have a deep understanding of use cases and scenarios for Motional’s camera systems.

  • Bring together diverse stakeholder camera system concerns into a clear, coherent story.

  • Develop the technical rationale behind key camera system performance metrics.

  • Communicate the results of these studies clearly to engineering teams.

What We're Looking For

  • Knowledge of advanced camera system characteristics, including Image Signal Processing details. Examples include understanding Modulation Transfer Function (MTF), Dynamic Range, several camera timescales (exposure time, shutter time), and white-balancing.

  • Ability to comfortably script in python.

  • A strong desire to make an impact in self-driving.

  • Strong communication skills with several technical groups with varying technical backgrounds (software systems, machine learning, camera hardware systems, manufacturing), including strong written communication skills.

Bonus Points

  • Good working knowledge of common machine learning algorithm metrics, such as precision, recall, and mean average precision.

  • Experience generating requirements for autonomous systems in complex environments.

Motional is a driverless technology company making self-driving vehicles a safe, reliable, and accessible reality.

The Motional team is made up of engineers, researchers, innovators, dreamers and doers, who together are creating a first-of-its-kind technology with the potential to transform the way we move. We’re behind some of the industry's largest leaps forward, including the first fully-autonomous cross-country drive in the U.S, the launch of the world's first robotaxi pilot, and operation of the world's most-established public robotaxi fleet.

As a leader in an emerging industry that has the promise of creating safer, more reliable and accessible transportation for all, it’s imperative we have a diverse workforce, create an inclusive culture, and understand the communities we operate in around the world.
